Home maintenance calendar: what to check each season
A simple overview of the jobs most homeowners forget until they become expensive.
Most homeowners do not need a complicated maintenance system. They just need a repeatable calendar that tells them what to check each month and each season before small issues turn into expensive repairs.
Monthly checks
- Replace or inspect HVAC filters
- Check for leaks under sinks and around toilets
- Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
- Walk around the exterior looking for drainage or roof issues
Spring and summer
- Check gutters, downspouts, and drainage paths
- Inspect the roof after storms
- Service cooling systems before peak heat
- Look for cracks, peeling caulk, and exterior wear
Fall and winter
- Prepare outdoor faucets and exposed plumbing
- Inspect weather stripping and door seals
- Service heating equipment before cold weather
- Clean debris away from drains, vents, and roof valleys
If you want all of that in one place instead of rebuilding the list every season, the Home Maintenance Master Checklist turns the calendar into a ready-to-use printable system.
